Thank the Lord

Today, we had a very good day.  Busy and wet, but very good.  Aiden and I had a very good vacation in Logan.  It was relaxing and enough to restart our souls.  We went right to our Family Home Evening (the big extended family...) to the Clearfield Aquatic Center.  It was great to have little mister splashing and loving the water.  It is cold water, so we didn't stay in very long, but I loved being with my brothers and sisters, nieces and nephews, and my son.  I realized how much I love all of them.

And as I was sitting enjoying their company, my mind went to the Parrishes (see a posting below) and I was thinking... our family has had hits of really hard times.  More than most families have to go through.  We have had our profound hits and we have had our profound joys.  Today was a profound joy.  But I got to thinking that  when the Lord sees fit to send us those hard times, we go through it.  There is no way around or above it.  Just through.  And others can't empathize.  They try to send love and help as they can and when it is their turn for the adversity, we try to do the same.

When the life-altering, shattering, mind-numbing experiences happen, we do our best.  That's all that can be expected of us.  But when it is our friends, family, and/or neighbors, we must also do our best to let them know we love them.  And when we can't tell them face to face, we can pray and hope the Lord sees fit to bless them.

And then thank the Lord that today was not the day we fought dark times.  Because we will.

The Great Escape

Aiden and I escaped... from what, I don't quite know.  It was just nice to get away.  Okay, so we didn't get very far.  Logan... but it is a change.  We at dinner at a HORRIFIC Mexican restaurant (paying for it tonight) and played in the hotel pool.   Aiden crashed.  Mom is not far behind.

Aiden was very tired.  Very tired.

His little teeth coming in!

Prayers for Parrishes

You may not know her, but please pray for Linda Parrish.  She is a dear friend and is currently on life support with a multitude of problems.  She and her husband, Lynn, are two of the kindest people I know.  My heart is breaking for them both.  If you want, see her progress here---

If you can, please remember her through your day.   Just a little about them:  Lynn was my home teacher when I lived in Bountiful.  He was genuinely concerned about me and my little unassuming life.  Linda was kind, loving, and so willing to befriend me when I felt like a misfit.

When I was pregnant with Aiden, I called Lynn in hysterics one day after we found out there were problems with Aiden.  He came with Brother Humphreys and gave me the sweetest, most inspired blessing.  I will never forget that day.  When Aiden had his surgeries in July 2009, they were there.  When I had ex-boyfriend scares, Lynn was there to protect me. For my birthday right before I had Aiden, Lynn and Linda, Jill Hall and I went to dinner at the Mandarin.  It was amazing and Linda was the life of the party.  She is a funny, loving woman.

I hope the Lord sees fit to leave her here for just a little while longer.

Profound

This morning on my way to work, I was listening to NPR (I know.. .NERD!)  and they had the Archbishop Desmond Tutu on as a guest.

What a profound man!!  He said something right as he was signing off that made me really think.  He was a very active participant in fighting against apartheid in South Africa and had to witness the very lowest, most brutal actions of mankind including torture that they said they could not describe on radio.  He was asked if he had a different relationship with God now that he had to go through so much.  This was his answer:

"I have learned to shut up and just be there. I used to bring my laundry list to God to fix and give him timelines to give me results.  I realized that  God is like a warm fire on a cold night.  When you fuss and move about hurriedly, you lose the benefit of the fire.  When you just sit and are quiet, you don't have to be smart.  You don't have to be profound.  You just need to be there.  Quiet.  The fire will warm you just simply by you being there.  So it is with God."

Wow!  I realized that the Lord must be sick of my laundry list and my problems.  Just to be there and enjoy the company and the "warmth" of the Lord.  To slow down and shut up.

Now, that is something to work hard to do.  Learn to be still.

More Favorites

I was getting my Netflix queue ready for the next couple of weeks.  I thought of all the movies that I love and why I love them.  Anyone who knows my family knows we speak in "movie code".  So... here is a small quiz for all ya'all who think you know me.    Some of these are very obscure.  And the quotes from them are obscure too.  Have fun!!

Name the quotes from ten comedies.  Don't scroll down and cheat.

1.  "We are followers of Peter the Dressmaker. He was Christ's tailor."
2. "Are we talking about the same man who once declared with total conviction that the late Colonel Howard had been bludgeoned to death with a blunt *excrement*? "
3. "Yes. Yes, I did it. I killed Yvette. I hated her, so much... it-it- the f - it -flam - flames. Flames, on the side of my face, breathing-breathl- heaving breaths. Heaving breath..."
4.  "Lisa, you've *got* to cross the finish line on this one! This is your third fiance today and it ain't even lunch yet!"
5.  "Cheddar! Aah-ooh! Cheddar whizzy!"
6. "They're techno-trousers, ex-NASA, fantastic for walkies!"
7.  "I like these guys! They are funny guys! "
8.  "That wimpy deer?"
9.  "I am trained in martial arts. Judo, aikido, karate. The first thing they teach you is self-control. If someone calls you a jerk, you don't him them. You just walk away.  "
10. "And that's it and that's the only thing I need, is this. I don't need this or this. Just this ashtray. And this paddle game, the ashtray and the paddle game and that's all I need. And this remote control. The ashtray, the paddle game, and the remote control, and that's all I need. And these matches. The ashtray, and these matches, and the remote control and the paddle ball. And this lamp. The ashtray, this paddle game and the remote control and the lamp and that's all I need. And that's all I need too. I don't need one other thing, not one - I need this. The paddle game, and the chair, and the remote control, and the matches, for sure. And this. And that's all I need. The ashtray, the remote control, the paddle game, this magazine and the chair."

Addiction

Darn the Girl Scouts and their heroine-filled Thin Mints.  I love them so.

I am already fat enough.

No more.  Ok, one more.... sleeve of Thin Mints.

Then Diet coke and salad for three months.

They strategically sell them 3 months after the New Years Resolutions have been tossed in the garbage.

Sneaky, sneaky girls.
