I didn't think I needed to clarify...

So, I guess I need to clarify....

Someone today put the following deductions together.  And not in this particular order:
I chose to be a single mother by in vitro fertilization
I don't wear jewelry very often
I am not dating... so I must be a lesbian.

Okay, now I realize that this person did not know me during the 9/10ths of my life that consisted of before I had a child and doesn't know that I love being feminine and ladylike, but guess once again I need to clarify...

I am a heterosexual.
For all those who really know me, you know that I enjoy dating.  I chose to be a single mother for reasons that are not anyone's business, but I would give a lot to share that with a man who I love and trust with my son.

I don't wear jewelry because I am not married (no ring on my left hand), my son pulls off my earrings and it hurts like hell, and necklaces usually get torn from my neck, and my wrist is too fat for bracelets.   I wear one ring because my mother gave it to me just before she died and I love it.

Also, I am not dating because I am trying really hard to be here for my son.  I am lonely.  A lot.  I am desperately lonely, but I am not desperate.  I love my life and I love my son.  I have always planned on doing  this alone, but I would love to change that plan should the right man come along.

Everyone clear?  Thank you.  I will get off my soap box.

Mom's Hot Date

Mom had a really amazing date night.

With my son.

We went to the Dinosaur Park, then to Rainbow Gardens to share a Mormon Muffin.  And milk.  It was awesome.

It must be tradition to take a picture of my little man in this spot.

What does a dinosaur say?  Aiden says, "ooo Ooo Oooo"
What?  No!  That is what a Monkey says.
We had to work on that.  By the end of the night, we had this:

ROAR!!!

So cold, but so fun.

Just an Aiden-sized dino.

The faces match!

Love my boy!!

Visitors

Aiden is feeling better.  And we couldn't be happier at my house.  When Aiden is not feeling well, he is GRUMPY SAUCE!!

Both Saturday and Sunday, Aiden's cousins came over to work on some Christmas crafts.  Aiden loves his cousins and here is the result:

Chillin' watching Thomas with Kelle on Saturday night.

The craft table... So much fun!

Found the toy bucket.  Kelle took him for a ride...

The bucket turns into a really fun, fast ride

But wait... there's more

You can't see this, but Kelle is running really fast...
She is a trooper.  She did this for many many rounds.

Check out the hair

And more...

Then we found the blanket swing.
Kelle and Breanna
Sunday

We decided to add a helmet...

Letters to the Docs

Dear Dr. M.
Thank you for understanding that finding a closer pediatrician than the University of Utah is not cheating on you if we only use her for emergencies - like today.  Thank you for loving my son enough to really be concerned tonight how he is feeling and calling just to chat with him.  Thank you for giving me your cell phone and home phone numbers so I can call you directly because you know my son better than anyone else in your clinic.

Thank you for calling the "spare" pediatrician to report to her my son's medical history, which is long and involved.  Thank you for crying and saying he is your little "albino muffin" and for the "spare" pediatrician to take "super-great" care of him or she will have your wrath.  And I believe you.

Thank you for saving my son - more than once - and sitting with him through his surgery in April so someone who loved him would be there.  You are my hero, Dr. M.  We will see you in a few weeks.

Love,
Aiden's Mommy

Dear Dr. G.
Thank you for graciously accepting the title of "Spare Pediatrician".  Thank you for listening, really listening to Dr. M about my son and understanding his health history.  Thank you for really listening to me.

Thank you for knowing the difference between Thomas the Tank Engine and James the Tank Engine.  I did notice.  And I think Aiden did, too.  Thank you for being so cute and gentle with my sick son.  Thank you for finding your Thomas DVD so my son would not cry during your exam.  You are so understanding of a toddler's priorities.

Thank you for not prescribing antibiotics that Aiden doesn't need.  That means you are really, really good at what you do.  Thank you for calling tonight to see how he is feeling.

Dr. M is the perfect pediatrician, but if we ever decide to cheat on her, you will be the first to know.

Love,
Aiden's Mommy

Sadness

Tonight, I received a call that made me a little sad.  The fertility clinic at the University of Utah called to ask if I was interested in going through in vitro again any time soon.  I was a little confused because I had never heard of a fertility clinic marketing to the past clients.  They explained that they were calling because my "donor" was about to expire and they always want to give the chance for another try.

I know that there is no way I can have another child.  Physically, I was told never to have another child.  So I said no.

N...O...

It was so final.   I know that it is not a possibility.  I know that more than one child is not in the cards.

But I love the one I have.  I can not possibly imagine my life as anything more or less that exactly what it is right now... with a little Monkey who I love so, so much.

So, even though it is a twinge of sadness, I could not be happier than I am at this moment.

Wild, wild weekend

We had a wild weekend.

A funeral, a baptism, and many many more chaos-filled moments. It was such a beautiful weekend and I wish we would have spent more time outside.

Here are some pics from the weekend.  Very random.  Sorry...

Aiden was caught red-handed in his toy box.

Cutest little Nonkey-in-a-box ever.

The tree right outside our house.  Magnificent.

Just relaxin' watching the game...

Anne ... with an E

Every girl should read Anne of Green Gables.  And every woman should re-read it at least once a year.  I am currently reading it for the first time and really reading it... including the long "imagination" passages that Anne comes up with.

The reason for this is... the character of Anne has to be the most optimistic appreciative person in all of literature.  She is wacky, careless, and vain, but she is so happy!  When I read, I imagine Megan Follows from the PBS version.  She is the only true Anne.   It really does make me happy to go to bed at night just having read it.

The other things in my life that I am doing to make every moment enjoyable are listening to great music (try Beautiful Life by Charlotte Martin, anything by Mika, or even M'Bob by Hansen...).  I am watching funny television reruns on Netflix (I just finished Arrested Development... again!!) and playing in the sunshine with Aiden every single day that we can.

Try it.  It might make the Holiday season happier for you too!
